Auto Insurance Terms You Should Know

When you drive a car, you know you need to protect yourself with auto insurance in case of an accident. If you need information about the types of services you need, you should talk to an insurance agent. If you live near Napa, CA, our experienced Wine Valley Insurance Services team encourages you to discuss auto insurance with one of our agents. We’ve been working with clients in your area since 2001.

It may help prepare you for your insurance discussion to be aware of some important insurance terms:

  • Assigned risk – when a person who standard insurance companies have rejected is assigned a policy with a company specializing in insurance for riskier drivers.
  • Exclusion – a provision in your policy that denies or restricts coverage to certain perils, persons, or locations.
  • Loan Gap Coverage – if your car is totaled in an accident, the insurance company pays the difference between the market value of your vehicle and the amount you still owe.
  • Non-renewal – a choice by the insured to terminate their policy at its expiration date.
  • Recision – the cancellation of an insurance policy back to its effective date. This results in a refund of all premiums paid.
  • Salvage – damaged property owned by the policyholder. That property is surrendered to the insurance company, who will sell it.
